Thakor G. Patel, Medical Corps, U.S. Navy

Thakor
Patel was born in Nairobi, Kenya, but spent
his formative years as a student at Sherwood
College between 1957 and 1962. He excelled in
mathematics and the sciences. He was also
particularly fond of field hockey.
After
graduating from Sherwood College, Thakor
studied medicine in Baroda, India. He then
migrated to the United States where he
completed his residency in Internal Medicine
and a Fellowship in Nephrology. He joined the
U.S. Navy and was first stationed in Hawaii
where along with his specialties in
Nephrology and Internal Medicine, he was one
of the few physicians in the world that was
trained in and practiced diving medicine.
Thakor retired from the Medical Corps, USN as
a Captain, and because of his meritorious
service, was decorated with the Legion of
Merit.
Dr.
T.G Patel was appointed Master, in the
American College of Physicians, a very rare
and prestigious station in the medical
community. But he cherishes his association
with Sherwood College and considers his
experiences there to have been the major
influence that shaped his life and
career.
